Ministry of Attorney General: Court Services Online Search

Access to justice for the citizens of BC

OpenRoad has been involved in the BC Government’s efforts to provide increased access to justice through electronic means for over 10 years. One of the primary means of providing alternative methods and added convenience to legal and court information is the Ministry of Attorney General’s Court Services Online (CSO). CSO is a web-based search and filing interface to the Provincial and Supreme Court civil file records, for use by the legal community, media, and general public.

Instead of visiting a court location registry somewhere in the province in order to fulfill their court search request, citizens can now visit CSO to securely query the Court filing system and registry. CSO Search allows users to search the Provincial and Supreme civil registry with a number of methods. Fully integrated with the government’s identity, authentication and payment services, CSO Search provides users access to vast amounts of civil court data from their desktops at a reasonable cost.

OpenRoad developed the initial CSO Search pilot application in 2004, moving to a fully operational version in 2005, developed using the Ministry’s enterprise Java/Oracle environment. CSO was a leading judicial system in Canada when it launched and continues to deliver information to the public and generate revenue for the province today.
