Content management for a gaming giant
In 2009 EA re-branded its EA Redwood Shores Studio as Visceral Games, and needed to recreate their web presence at the same time. Visceral Games is responsible for a number of EA titles over the years, including The Godfather, The Simpsons Game and the critically acclaimed Dead Space series. For the new website, Visceral wanted a website that was easy to keep up to date, that showed regular activity and was targeted at their core audience of gamers looking to find out information on upcoming games, and job seekers looking for a place to work.

After evaluating the technology options, OpenRoad recommended a blog based approach where nearly all content entries were driven out of a blog style publishing system. The back-end blog engine was developed in Alfresco, and the front-end was based on a new publishing framework developed for EA by OpenRoad called “Brawl”. The framework is based on Struts 2, Spring and Freemarker. OpenRoad worked closely with Idea Rebel for the visual design on this project.

The end result was a new site that was launched on time and on budget. The Dead Space games have gone on to be one of the highest rated survival horror games. The Visceral site has continued to update gamers on new titles including Dantes Inferno and Dead Space 2.
