OpenRoad Communications acquires Digital Agency Mod7

Enhances Creative Direction and Design Services

DEC 5 2013, VANCOUVER, BC – OpenRoad Communications is pleased to officially announce the acquisition of creative agency Mod7 Communications Inc. As one of Vancouver’s largest independently-owned web development firms, OpenRoad has built an 18-year reputation on its digital strategy and technical development skills, working on major web projects for clients including Electronic Arts, Roxy/QuikSilver, BC Hydro, ICBC, The Government of Canada and Pokémon. Mod7 is an award-winning creative agency, servicing clients such as BC Dairy Association, the Discovery Channel, and the Food Network. The acquisition of Mod7 broadens OpenRoad’s creative offerings, adding creative direction and enhancing design capacity.

Wil Arndt, former principal of Mod7, will be the new Creative Director. Wil brings 20 years of design experience, where he has been recognized with 80 creative awards and has instructed at Vancouver’s major design schools, Emily Carr and Vancouver Film School. OpenRoad will continue to be led by founding partner Darren Gibbons and Vice President Gordon Ross. “We’re very excited to welcome Mod7 to our company. We’ve had a successful business relationship with Mod7 for many years, partnering on projects for Pokémon, TReO, and The World Bank. Adding these capabilities will give us even more opportunities to collaborate and innovate, ultimately providing the best end-to-end experience for our clients.” said Gibbons.

The recent acquisition will also benefit OpenRoad’s enterprise software platform, ThoughtFarmer, by enriching the design of an already innovative social intranet product. ThoughtFarmer is used for internal communications and collaboration by global companies such as The Guardian, Fokker Aerospace, and IDEO, and BC companies such as Central 1 Credit Union, Vancouver Public Library, Mountain Equipment Co-op, and YVR.

All staff are now located in OpenRoad’s Gastown office, working under the OpenRoad brand. Arndt commented “You can still rely on us to help with your design needs, digital strategy, and technology guidance. In fact, because I’ll be able to more fully devote my time to creative leadership, you’ll get more of me, doing what I’m best at — leading the creation of innovative digital experiences. Furthermore, we’ll now have the support of OpenRoad’s world-recognized leaders, experts in complex technical strategy and development, who can help us take things to the next level.”
