We’re thrilled to be recognized by the Web Marketing Association’s 2018 Web Awards. For 21 years the Web Awards have recognized the best and most effective websites in the world. A committee of industry leaders volunteer to judge and score submissions. The Web Awards recognize websites that meet the highest global standards and set industry benchmarks by.

Judges scored entries against seven criteria: design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, and copywriting. The highest possible score for each category is 70 points. Websites that score higher than their industry average earn the Standard of Excellence. The project with the highest score in each category wins Best Website.

Altogether, OpenRoad won five Standard of Excellence and two Best Website awards. Standard of Excellence was awarded to the ThoughtFarmer 8.5 Interface redesign, the ThoughtFarmer website redesign, our Creative Services page, the UBC Innovation Network website, and the UBC Strategic Plan. In the News and Manufacturing categories, UBC News and Honeywell took the top prize. We're proud to see our clients—both local and international—celebrated for prioritizing user experience.

Refreshed UBC News recognized as Best News Website

The University of British Columbia’s News microsite won Best News Website. UBC wanted to refresh the design without disrupting the experience of their existing audience. Our UX, Design, Development, and Project Management teams updated and improved the presentation of the site, updated the CMS templates to offer more flexibility, and improved the security and stability of the site. Past winners of the Best News Website award include ABC News, Variety, and the New York Times.

Setting the standard for the manufacturing industry

In the Manufacturing category, the Honeywell Smartline Application Validation Tool won Best Website. For this project we worked with Honeywell to create the best possible digital experience for configuring and validating their SmartLine device. One of the challenges we faced was that the standard mathematical modelling and simulation tools were not mobile responsive. To mitigate this we wrote a lightweight, JavaScript-based algorithm. The finished product is faster and more responsive than the industry standard. Past winners in the Manufacturing category include Glidden, BF Goodrich Tires, and Eaton.

We’re proud to see our clients set the standard for their industries.
