Open source CMS for EA’s oldest franchise
Medal of Honor is one of EA’s longest running franchises with 20 different releases across 10 different platforms in its 11 year history. For the 2010 release, EA decided to give the series a “reboot” – setting the action in modern-day Afghanistan rather than the World War II setting of previous releases. EA needed a new site that fit the new approach for the game, and OpenRoad was approached with the goal of launching an initial multilingual teaser site in just six weeks to coincide with the world-wide announcement at the Spike TV video game awards.
The new site was to be launched on a new infrastructure at EA as well, which added to the excitement. The new infrastructure was hosted at Rackspace, using the Drupal content management system. G2 did the visual design, and the project was developed using the SCRUM methodology and tight 1 week sprints with clear milestones and deliverables demonstrated every Friday afternoon.
Thanks to the tight integration and cooperation by all team members, the site was launched on time with 6 different languages. Extensive caching and performance testing demonstrated that the new infrastructure was capable of handling well over 400 page views per second. Since the launch the site has undergone continuous improvements as new features and enhancements are added on 2 week cycle to ensure that the Medal of Honor fan community has new content to get them excited for the launch in 2010.
